When a patient has an infection – or actually, might not – caregivers must make decisions on what antibiotic to prescribe, in what quantity and strength, and how it’s delivered. The misuse of antibiotics, however, is a public health concern because inappropriate prescribing can cause resistance and adverse effects. UMMC’s antimicrobial stewardship team is helping providers make good decisions when it comes to that family of drugs. |
